"News has been received here of the death on the 3rd inst., in his 77th year, Wm. Fulton, Blackrigg, Johnstone, who was born at Crofthead, Canonbie, in 1812. He was a man of kindly diaposition and extremely sociable, nothing giving him greater delight than to gather his neighbours under his own roof-tree for conversation on topics interesting to all. One subject be was never tired of dwelling upon was the portion of his life spent in Canonbie and the events of that period formed the theme of many a "twa-handed crack." He was esteemed and respected by all his acquaintances, and the respect in which he was held was more than manifested by the kindly attention shown to him during his last illness. He is survived by a grown-up family."
