Passed away last week-end, Walter Beattie, a staunch, life-long Laborite and an old friend of the "Worker." Physically big and robust and merely a middle-aged man, Walter was a Scotch man of the very best type, and as we saw him quite recently one would have taken a lease of his life, as it were. But somehow "in the midst of life we are truly in death,' and he collapsed very suddenly as the result of a seizure. A carpenter by trade, he developed into a very, capable builder, and it was he who successfully carried out, under the architects' supervision, the erection of both Brisbane and Sydney "Worker" printeries. Vale, Beattie! Our loss is one to be mourned."
