1Newspaper Obituary, The Press Tues 30 Jul 1935.
"OBITUARY
MR JOHN MCADAM
The death occurred of Mr John McAdam, at his residence, "Glenturrett," Domett, in his sixty-eighth year, after a brief illness. He was born in Inverness-shire, Scotland, in 1868, and came to New Zealand in 1893, arriving in the ship Ruahine. Soon after his arrival he went, to "Stonyhurst" Station, then owned by Sir George Clifford, where he was employed as a shepherd, and later took over the management of "Greta .Paddocks" stud farm, which at the time was owned by the late Mr C. Sawtell. While holding this position he married Miss Mary Jane Grierson, of Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland.
In 191? Mr McAdam purchased a property at Domett, which he successfully farmed until the time of his death. He was a highly respected resident of the district. Mr McAdam had a thorough knowledge of sheep, and was a prominent breeder and exhibitor of Corriedales, his wool having brought top price at a Christchurch sale. He was a keen and active member of the principal organisations in the district, being a member of the committee of the Cheviot Agricultural and Pastoral Association, Trotting and Collie Clubs, and was always ready to assist at the different functions held. Mr McAdam was a well-known figure and a successful competitor at the various dog trials held in North Canterbury, where he won many trophies, and gained a substantial sum and several trophies at the last Cheviot trials. His wife, two daughters (Mrs J. Stevenson and Miss R. Mc- Adam), and two sons (Messrs Gilbert and Robert McAdam) survive him. The funeral of Mr McAdam took place at the Home View Presbyterian cemetery. There was a large and representative attendance of relatives and friends from the county and neighbouring districts.
A short service was held at his residence by the Rev. W. H. Carroll, who also conducted the service at the graveside. Piper J. Pilcher played "The Flowers of the Forest" at the service held at the house, and he led the cortege to the graveside.
The pall-bearers were Messrs James McAdam (brother), Nicholas McAdam (Balcairn), James McAdam (Waikari), and John McAdam (Cheviot), cousins. The chief mourners were Mrs J. McAdam, Mrs J. Stevenson, and Miss R. McAdam (daughters), and Messrs Gilbert and Robert McAdam (sons), and Messrs Robert and James McAdam (brothers)."

"WEDDING

Many North Canterbury residents attended the wedding celebrated at St. Andrew's Church, Oxford terrace, yesterday morning, when Flora Margaret, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs John McAdam, of "Glenturret," Domett, was married to James, second son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Stevenson, of "Fenwick Farm," Spotswood. Small loops and buttons fastened the long sleeves from wrist to elbow and also the back of the bodice, which at the front fell into cowl folds from the neck, while at the waist the sash was caught by ruching before swathing to tie at the back. Her long, embroidered tulle veil, arranged m close cap style, was finished at each ear by a small posy of orange blossom, which had been worn by her mother on her wedding day. and she carried a sheaf of white and cream begonias and white chrysanthemums.
Her sister, Miss Rosa McAdam, attended her. wearing a frock of pale pink georgette, similar in style to the bridal gown, and on her hair was a half circlet of pale pink velvet flowers. She carried a sheaf of belladonna lilies and pale pink ehrysani themums and roses.
