3Newspaper Obituary, Otautau Standard 4 Apr 1916.
"ANDREW GLENDINNING
The end link of the chain connecting the present with the early history of the Waiau and Lakes District was snapped when Andrew Glendinning, of "Glendiarg," Mangapiri, or old Belmont, was gathered to his fathers last week, and laid to rest in the Riverton cemetery.
Andrew Glendinning was quite a remarkable man, although one of these quiet, retiring natures, seldom heard, but whose influence is widespread and for good. It is said of deceased, that he had not an enemy in the world, that those who had known him longest, and who had the most to do with him were his closest friends and admirers, that his genuineness, his honesty of purpose, and sterling integrity secured for him the abiding regard and admiration of all men having dealings with him. Andrew Glendinning was essentially a "shepherd," he liked the wide places of the earth, the hills and valleys and mountains, with the eternal heavens overhead. The more confined conditions of closer settlement and intensive farming never appealed to him; they did not appear to be wide and open enough, or to afford proper breathing space. The rugged expanses of the Takitimos, stretching from the swift-rolling Waiau to the snow-capped skyline were as his native heath, and a perpetual attraction to him.
Andrew Glendinning was a "Border man," hailing from Berwick on the Tweed, and came out to New Zealand when a young man of 24, arriving in the ship, "Robert Henderson, " from Greenock in 1862, having as shipmates the late James Blakie and Robert Grieve. His first work was as a shepherd on McMasters and Borrie's run in Canterbury. From there he came through to Southland with the first draft of sheep for stocking Castlerock Station, on behalf of the late Hon. Matthew Holmes. The sheep, it is interesting to note, were in charge of the late Mr T. L. Barnhill who was at that time a cadet under Mr Holmes. On delivery of the sheep, the deceased stayed on as shepherd till Mr Barnhill entered into partnership with the late Mr A. R. Hare in the Blackmount Run, when he transferred to that famous estate as head shepherd. Shortly afterwards Messrs Helder and Awdry bought Redcliffe Station, and Mr Glendinning joined them as head shepherd, a position he held for four years, thereafter entering the service of Messrs Ellis Bros, when the latter bought the Wairaki Station, and remaining with them till that property was "ent up," when he took up one of the small grazing runs cut out of the Belmont Estate, on which he resided till his death. "Glendiarg" has since been noted for the excellence of its stock, the annual surplus drafts of sheep being always keenly competed for in the Otautau yards.
Deceased’s wife pre-deceased him by 20 years, leaving behind her a memory of heroic and noble effort as a devoted wife and mother, a woman pioneer of the very best type, a true friend and neighbour, unselfish, cheerful, hospitable and of unbounded energy and enthusiasm.
Deceased is survived by a large family to mourn his loss; his sons are Andrew and William, both of Belmont, and Thomas, the youngest, who is a member, of the 14th Reinforcements and is now in camp at Trentham; the daughters are: Mrs Henry McLees, Belmont, Mrs Ralph Scott, Clifden, Mrs Wm. Templeton, Pahia, Mrs D. McCall, Mt. Burke, Wanaka, and Miss Ellen Glendinning, Christchurch.
The funeral services on Thursday, conducted by the Rev. A. Macdonald at the Riverton cemetery were attended by the representative Fathers of the Waiau and the Far West, among them Messrs D. McLaren, Eastern Bush, W. Bradley, Mangapiri, R. Beggs, Montevue, H. McLees, Sunnyside, James Macdonald, formerly of Waicola and now of Tuatapere, and many others. In the removal of Andrew Glendinning the Wairaki District has lost a noble pioneer, whose word was his bond - peace to his ashes."

Elizabeth Millar ANDERSON

1Newspaper Obituary, Otago Witness 1 Jul 1897.
"June 22. - By the death of Mrs Glendinning, wife of Mr Andrew Glendinning, of Bellmount, this district has lost one of its most respected residents. Although only a little over 40, Mrs Glendinning has been identified with the history of the Waiau for many years, and was looked on as one of the oldest identities. She was of remarkably fine physique, and the news of her illness and death came as a shock to all who knew her. Of a remarkably kind and genial nature, she was a friend to all, espaecially to those who were in need of assistance. Such a person is always invaluable in a sequestered district, and Mrs Glendinning's death will for a long time cause a void in the whole district."

551. William GLENDINNING

1Newspaper Obituary, Streetsville Review 29 May 1913.
"The grim reaper death has again visited our village and in Friday morning past, May 23rd, summoned one of our oldest and most respected citizens, in the person of Mr. William Glendenning in his 75th year.
Mr. Glendenning had been ill for several months but bore his affliction with great patience. He was a good citizen, a kind neighbour and above all an earnest Christian, being a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church since a boy. He was born in the village in December, 1838, and spent all his life around Streetsville. For a number of years he farmed on the Fifth line, but had lived retired since 1894. During his life he witnessed many changes in the village and was always glad to converse with any of the old boys and girls whom he happened to meet. His old chum, Mr. William Jones of New York, was here two weeks ago, and he enjoyed his visit very much.
The funeral took place on Monday afternoon, service being conducted at the house by Rev. J. F. Scott, pastor of St. Andrew's Church, who delivered a very impressive discourse from the words of the 21st verse of the first chapter of Phillipians: "For me to live is Christ, to die is gain." The funeral then proceeded to Streetsville Cemetery where interment was made.
The pall-bearers were Messrs. Edgar and Art. Adamson, Jas. Blackall, R. H. Greig, C. H. Falconer and Alex. McClintock.
The floral tributes were very beautiful.
Besides his widow, one son, Rolph, of Shallow Lake, survives, and the sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved in the hour of their affliction."

Scott after which the remains were laid away to rest in Streetsville cemetery beside those of her husband who predeceased her seventeen months ago. Mrs. Glendinning was a very fine woman and a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. She was born in England and came to Canada when quite young. With her husband she lived for many years on the farm on the fifth line, but for the past 20 years has resided in the village. One son, Ralph, of Owen Sound, is the only survivor. Mr. and Mrs. Woodward of Detroit and Mr. Buckburrough of Norwich attended the funeral of the late Mrs. Glendenning."
