"DAVID PARK THOMSON
One of the oldest residents of the district and a member of a pioneer family, David Park Thomson died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Duncan, North Orillia, on Wednesday, August 13, in his 98th year.
Mr. Thomson was born in Glenmetal, Invernesshire, Scotland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Thomson. In 1872, when a young man of 23 years of age, he came to Canada with his parents and settled on a farm in South Orillia. He lived there most of his early life except for a few years spent in Ardtrea and Hampshire, but moved back to the original farm home, Hill House, next to the Ontario Hospital School. A part of the present hospital property was purchased from the Thomson family.
In 1926 he left the farm and lived in Dunedin Park, Orillia, until his wife died in 1934. Since then he has lived with his daughter, Mrs. Duncan, or with his sons in Orillia. He has enjoyed good health up until about three weeks before his death.
Mr. Thomson served for several years as a member of the Council and was Deputy Reeve of the Township of Orillia. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. In 1883 he married Jane Scott, also of Invernesshire, who died in 1934.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. David Dunn and Miss Annie Thomson of Orillia and one daughter, Mrs. William Duncan and two sons, J.W. Thomson and D.T.S. Thomson, both of Orillia. There are seven grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at MacDonald’s Funeral Home on Friday, August 15 and interment was made in Orillia Cemetery. The Rev. J.A. MacInnis took the service and pallbearers were Duncan McIntosh, Norman Shaw, and four grandsons, John Thomson, and David, James and Thomas Duncan. Many beautiful floral tributes were received from relatives, friends and organizations."
