950. David Park THOMSON

"DAVID PARK THOMSON
One of the oldest residents of the district and a member of a pioneer family, David Park Thomson died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Duncan, North Orillia, on Wednesday, August 13, in his 98th year.
Mr. Thomson was born in Glenmetal, Invernesshire, Scotland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Thomson. In 1872, when a young man of 23 years of age, he came to Canada with his parents and settled on a farm in South Orillia. He lived there most of his early life except for a few years spent in Ardtrea and Hampshire, but moved back to the original farm home, Hill House, next to the Ontario Hospital School. A part of the present hospital property was purchased from the Thomson family.
In 1926 he left the farm and lived in Dunedin Park, Orillia, until his wife died in 1934. Since then he has lived with his daughter, Mrs. Duncan, or with his sons in Orillia. He has enjoyed good health up until about three weeks before his death.
Mr. Thomson served for several years as a member of the Council and was Deputy Reeve of the Township of Orillia. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. In 1883 he married Jane Scott, also of Invernesshire, who died in 1934.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. David Dunn and Miss Annie Thomson of Orillia and one daughter, Mrs. William Duncan and two sons, J.W. Thomson and D.T.S. Thomson, both of Orillia. There are seven grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at MacDonald’s Funeral Home on Friday, August 15 and interment was made in Orillia Cemetery. The Rev. J.A. MacInnis took the service and pallbearers were Duncan McIntosh, Norman Shaw, and four grandsons, John Thomson, and David, James and Thomas Duncan. Many beautiful floral tributes were received from relatives, friends and organizations."


956. Margaret THOMSON

"Death Takes Old Resident
Orillia - A well-known long-time resident of Orillia, Margaret Thomson Dunn, passed away yesterday in her 96th year. Funeral service will be conducted at the Mundell Funeral Home, 79 West St. N. on Wednesday, April 17th at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Dunn died in the old Dunn Homestead where she had spent the greater part of her life. She was born in Scotland, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Thomson. In 1872 she came to Canada. She was married on January 9, 1884 to David J. Dunn whose family were early pioneers in the Orillia district. Their fiftieth wedding anniversary was a cause for a celebration in 1934 and relatives and friends came from far and near to make the occasion festive and gay. The family presented them with a Westminster Chime Clock at that time.
In the early days the Dunn Homestead extended from Dunn Avenue down across what is now No. 11 Highway to the Canadian National Railway tracks, to Lake Simcoe, and also took in what is now the Ontario Hospital School. In 1912 the land was subdivided.
Mrs. Dunn went to school with Mr. Alex Cuppage, who recently celebrated his 96th birthday.
Mr. Dunn predeceased his wife in 1936 and since that time she has continued to live at the old home on Dunn Avenue.
She is survived by a son William who lives on the Fourth Concession. Mrs. Dunn had four children altogether, one son died while still very young, a son Gordon and a daughter Mrs. A. McDonough predeceased her."


Archie William MCDONOUGH

"ARCHIBALD W. McDONOUGH
Archibald William McDonough died in the Soldiers Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, November 6, at the age of 62 years. Mr. McDonough had been ill for over a year since an operation in Toronto. He had been confined to the Soldiers Memorial Hospital for three months prior to his death.
He was born in Oro, the son of the late Thomas McDonough and Lilian McMillan. He entered the service of the Canadian National Railway and was employed at a number of centers. At the time of his retirement he was station agent at Lefrey. He was with the railway for about thirty-five years. He was a member of the Newmarket Presbyterian church and of the Orillia Masonic Lodge. He served overseas in the first Great War and was a member of the Canadian Legion.
In 1918 he married Jessie J. Dunn, of Orillia, who survives him together with one sister, Mrs. Hanca McDonald of Caledonia and four brothers, Michael of Toronto, Jack of Owen Sound, Duncan of Orillia and Thomas of Allandale.
The funeral service was held on Friday, November 8 at MacDonald's funeral parlours with the Rev. J.A. MacInnis in charge, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Sneyd. Interment was in St Andrew's cemetery. The pallbearers were Jack O'Brian and Gordon Dunn of Orillia, Jack McDonough of Toronto, Thomas McDonough of Allandale, Thomas McDonough of Caledonia and William Dunn of Bracebridge.
Floral tributes were received from the Canadian National Railway, the Masonic Order, the staff of the Bank of Commerce in Mount Pleasant Road in Toronto, the Canadian Legion and the Heywood-Wakefield Company."

"DAVID E. THOMSON
After a brief illness of only a week, following a stroke, death came to Mr. David E. Thomson, of Ardtrea, at his home on Tuesday evening in his fifty-ninth year. Mr. Thomson was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Archibald Thomson, pioneer settlers at Ardtrea, where he was born, and where almost all his life was spent. He attended the Orillia schools, and for a few years, during the time that his father was connected with the Ontario Hospital, made his home in South Orillia. In 1902 he was married to Miss Alice Kean, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Kean of North Orillia, and besides his wife, he leaves three sons and three daughters, James, of Orillia; Miss Marjorie, of Toronto, and Frank, Murray and Misses Gwen and Jean at home. He also leaves five sisters and five brothers: Mrs. William Millichamp, North Orillia; Mrs. Jos. Casey, Unity, Saskatchewan; John, William, Mrs. John Ross and Mrs. George Ross, Orillia; Archibald, Grant and Mrs. Earl Wood, North Orillia; and Gray of Sudbury. There is one grandson. The funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon from the home, where service will be conducted at two o’clock by the Rev. J.A. MacInnis, to St Andrew’s Cemetery, Orillia. His five brothers will act as pallbearers."
