"Kalvin Sylvester, 86, Grand Forks, and formerly of Hallock, died at Valley memorial Homes, Grand Forks, Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001. Kalvin was born in Humboldt, Nov. 4, 1914, the son of Len and Bertha (Gill) Sylvester. He graduated from Humboldt High School and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. On Feb. 28, 1942 he married Anne Walters at Hallock. Kalvin owned and operated Sylvester Service in Donaldson, sold crop insurance and was the civil defense director for Kittson County until 1981 when he retired. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Family members include his wife, Anne; a son, Terry (Mary) Sylvester, Pembina; two grand-daughters, Beth (Shawn) Wilson, Aurora, Colo. and Lisa (Chad) Snyder, Sioux Falls, SD; two great granddaughters, Kenzie Snyder and Madison Wilson; two sisters, Madrienne (Andy) Theisen, Florida and Hazel Schultz, Red Lake Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents and step mother. Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 28, 11 a.m, Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock. Rev. Robert Kippley presiding. Pallbearers were Brian Olson, Mark Wiese, Ted Kroulik, Don Murray, Kent Schultz and Marvin Hallberg. Inscription: US AAF WWII."

Helen OLSONOSKI

"Helen Sylvester, 91, Idaho Falls, Idaho and formerly of Kennedy, died at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls Monday, Nov. 27, 2000. Helen Olsonoski was born in Richardville Township of Kittson County Aug. 3, 1909, the daughter of Stanislaus and Mary Olsonoski. She grew up in Richardville Township and attended public school. On Sep. 27, 1930 she was united in marriage to George Sylvester at Argyle. The couple settled in Kennedy and Helen became the first cook at the Kennedy School after the school lunch program was started. She was also a seamstress and worked as a clerk at the Kiene Store and later Eukel's Hartz Store. George died in 1973. Helen was active in the community and was an election judge for many years and had also served as the city assessor. She was a member of Maria Lutheran Church, had been a 4-H Leader for more than 25 years; and was a charter member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary. Family members include three daughters, Marlene Peterson, Eden Prairie; Lois (Ben) Davis, South Lyon, MI and Jeanette (Rodney) Lysfjord, Idaho Falls, Idaho, a son, Richard (Andrea) Sylvester, Barnesville, nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; two sisters, Rose (Ed) Grabowski, Emerson, Manitoba, Canada and Victoria (Erland) Widerstrand, Hallock; two brothers, Edward (Rose) Olsonoski and Vincent (Verna) Olsonoski both of Lancaster; family friend, Robert Peterburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant son; a son-in-law, James Peterson; two brothers, Stanley and Felix; two sisters, Ann and Martha; and half-brothers and sisters, Josephine, Katherine, Joseph, Steve, William and Frank. Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in Maria Lutheran Church, Kennedy. Interment was in the Kennedy Cemetery. Rev. Kenneth Losch presided. Pallbearers were Helen's grandchildren."
